Cowboy boots
for years I avoided them, shunned them
a small town girl in the city lights
trying to fit in, forgetting her roots
of one stop-light towns, riding and rodeos
then finding the power that comes with age
of embracing yourself both past and present
there are city girls in the country and country girls in the city
on a given day I can be either one or both
comfortable in stilettos’ comfortable in cowboy boots
comfortable in my own skin
